Zigabid’s Most Anticipated Reunions: #36 Creedence Clearwater Revival / #35 The Misfits
36. Creedence Clearwater Revival
Creedence Clearwater Revival and specifically their lead singer John Fogerty had a distinct sound that you couldn’t miss. Their twangy, bluesy, southern rock inspired music brought them five number 2 hits on the Billboard charts. In fact, CCR is the only band to have five number 2 hits and not a single number 1 hit. It didn’t make them any less memorable. In the five years of their existence, the band released seven studio albums. That’s hard work that isn’t seen often anymore in music. Their catalog spawned many timeless hits such as “Proud Mary”, “Bad Moon Rising, “Running Through the Jungle”, and more that can still be heard today on classic rock radio, movies, and commercials.
Relations between surviving members John Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford have been rocky at best the last two decades. Cook and Clifford currently tour as Creedence Clearwater Revisited playing the original CCRs hits. Fogerty snubbed the two at the band’s induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 barring Clifford and Cook from coming on stage. Enough time has passed that perhaps it’s time for the remaining members of CCR to sit down and put aside their differences once and for all. For a band that contributed so much to American rock and roll in the late 60s and early 70s, fans would be delighted by a revival.
35. The Misfits
Most people are familiar with The Misfits by their ubiquitous t-shirts that are still sported today with the signature skull logo. While the current incarnation plays heavy metal based music, they burst onto the music scene in the late 70s playing “horror punk” and influenced by horror movies and themes. The original lineup is known most for lead singer Glen Danzig who would find even later success with his band Danzig. The Misfits have been known for having a revolving door of members especially since their full on comeback in 1996 with original members Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein plus a pair of new members. The Misfits also had a run in 2001-2008 with an all-star lineup that included members of The Ramones and Black Flag that was wildly popular.
In 2004, Doyle toured with Glen Danzig playing 30-minute sets of Misfits classics at Danzig shows. This got the wheels rolling on a potential full reunion. Sadly, Jerry Only and his manager had issues that prevented this from ever happening. While The Misfits still have loyal fans, their sound has changed greatly over time. This makes a reunion of the original lineup playing the songs that broke them through in the first place much anticipated by the fans.
